About Bobs

History of Bob's Speedometer

Bob's Speedometer is a family owned business that was started in 1929. The shop was originally in Detroit as United Motors Auto Service. By the mid 1950's we worked exclusively with Speedometers & Gauges. In 1987 the business moved northwest into Farmington. Ownership changed from Father Bob to son Bruce in 1969. Bruce has been working on gauges since 1956. Bob passed away in 1980 (RIP).

In 2004, we moved from our Farmington location to Howell, Michigan

    The Little Bob

    Did You Know?
The simple automotive circuit tester, a staple in every mechanic's toolbox, has been in use for much longer than most folks may realize. In fact, Bob Woolsey, founder of Bob's Speedometer, designed and patented one of these devices, called the Little Bob, back when most vehicles still ran on 6 volt electrical systems. From the very beginning, Bob Woolsey was dedicated to making Bob's Speedometer a leader in the industry. Today, Bob's son Bruce, and Bruce's son Eric, continue to uphold the highest of standards, not in small part because they both know Bob wouldn't have expected anything less.

We Have Thousands & Thousands of Silkscreens!

One of the key factors in getting an authentic restoration is making sure that any of the original graphics images are faithfully reproduced. Over the years, Bob's Speedometer has accumulated thousands and thousands of silkscreens to make sure your restoration looks just like it should, no matter what make or vintage you send in. And that list grows larger and larger every week. Here are just a few of the unique images that we have available to make your gauges look just right when they are completely restored. Bob's grandson Eric, and now, Bob's great grandson James, are the keepers of this invaluable resource, just for Bob's Speedometer's customers!
